The novel - social, psychological and thesis - is the main form of expression. Slavery, racial prejudice and sexuality are the main subjects treated with clear and direct language.
Between Brazilian artists, has greater expression bourgeois realism, born in France. Instead of workers, what you see on screen is the daily life of the bourgeoisie. Followers of this line stand out Belmiro de Almeida (1858-1935), author of Tiffany, who portrays the discussion of a couple, and Almeida Junior (1850-1899), author of The Rest of the Model. Later, Almeida Júnior approaches realism one more committed to the popular classes, as in Caipira Poking Tobacco
